We plan on leaving the camping area at about 9:00 am on Saturday July 27th. The ride is About 50 miles . Plan on bringing rain gear just in case  Also lunch and drinks

There will be a Poker Run on the ride and if you would like to participate, a Happy Hour after the ride at the camping area.

Look forward to seeing you there! Barb and Dawn

“The Saturday ride will leave the camping area on the 409 road at 9:00 am and travel North along Lightening Ridge, crossing over Pool Knoll and proceeding to an overlook of Greer. We will then proceed South across open fields to Burro Mountain, where rocky trails will provide some 4-wheel, low gear travel. Morse Spring water is cool, crystal clear and delicious. Off the mountain and across toward Big Lake, hopefully herds of elk will be seen along the way before returning to the camp staging area, a total of 45.8 miles and some of the best trail riding the White Mountains has to offer. A lot of work went into developing this ride, pre-riding it and clearing the trails of fallen trees, so hopefully you will find it enjoyable. Bring lunch, water, and rain suits.”

“We will no doubt have a campfire, liquid refreshments, and pot luck hor d’ oeuvres Friday evening for those who camp and Saturday for all who stay after the ride.”

June Club Ride

The ride will be led by Pat and Jo Ann.  It’s about 45 miles and will leave the staging area at 09:00 am Saturday, June 29th.  Please arrive in time to unload and be ready for the ride briefing at about 08:45. The staging/camping area is at Buckelew Springs.  Bring your ride lunch and plenty of water.  It’s likely to be hot and dusty, although you can obviously check the weather conditions nearer the ride time.

From the intersection of US 60 and Penrod –

  • Go east on US 60 to the Vernon Road ≈ 20.7 miles
  • Turn right (southerly) on the Vernon Road
  • Go 2.3 miles to 3261, about 0.1 miles past the cemetery on the right
  • Turn left (easterly) on 3261
  • Go 1.5 miles on 3261 to the second cattle guard
  • At the second cattle guard you will enter the Forest and 3261 becomes FS 61
  • Go 0.9 miles to a fork in the road.  Bear right at the fork, and continue  on the better-looking road
  • Go another 0.9 miles.  You should see a sign on the left saying Buckelew Springs.  The right turn off into the staging/camp area is less than 50 yards past the sign.

The Club will be riding from the staging/camp location near the intersection of FS 146 and FS 124.  From the intersection of 260 and 60 at the west end of Show Low:

·         Go west on 260 about 26⅓ miles to FS 146 – FS 146 is just west of mile marker 314/look for the WMOTA sign

·         Turn south/left coming from Show on FS 146

·         At about 3.2 miles you will come to FS 124 – again look for the WMOTA sign

·         Turn right/west on FS 124

·         The turn into the ride staging/camp area is about 50 yards on the left – again WMOTA sign

The approximate location of the staging/camp area in degrees.decimal is 34.3270 and 110.4809 or in degrees°, minutes’ and seconds” 34 19 37.2 and 110 28 51.2.  And in UTM 12N easting 247753.5 – northing 3798536.  Ok clearly, I’ve too much time on my hands.  😊

Rides are also planned for Thursday, May 16th, and Friday, May 17th.  You do not have to camp to participate in the Thursday and Friday rides.

The Thursday ride will leave the staging area at 3:00 pm and arrive at the Wild Woman restaurant at about 5:00 pm where the group will have dinner.  Thursday night is ribs night at the Wild Woman.  The ride back to the staging/camp area after dinner is easy and short.

The Friday ride will leave at 10:00 am and return to the staging/camp area about 1:00 pm.  Since the ride gets back about 1:00 pm, Paul is not planning on a lunch stop.  You can bring a lunch to eat at the camp/staging area if desired.

As always, bring plenty of water for the rides and whatever snacks are desired.  The long-range forecast is calling for temperatures in the 60s and some chance of rain.  Rain gear and layered clothing is recommended. Of course, it never hurts to check the forecasts closer to the ride days. Also, if you plan to camp and didn’t sign up at the meeting Thursday night, please let us know you’re coming.  Thanks

April 2019 Club Ride

The Cowboy Spa Ride

Our April ride will be on Saturday the 27th, leaving at 9:30 am from the staging area.  This is a great ride in the Junipers and Pinon pines with many interesting sights, including crossing under US 60 and driving on old US 60.  We will visit some historical sites as well as some geological sites.

Directions to the staging area are….leaving Eagar take highway 191 towards Alpine past Nelson Reservoir (your last chance to use a public restroom) to Forest Road 2116, turn left before the large cell tower, drive up to the top of the hill (approx. 1.4 miles) to FR 688, turn left again.  The staging area is on FR 688, approx. 1.8 miles from highway 191. We will have our WMOTA signs out to help you.

We don’t usually camp in April but if you want to camp there is a great area at the junction of FR 2116 and FR 688.

This is a 45 mile trip with NO mud but some dust.  As usual bring a lunch, snacks, water and a fun attitude.

There will to be a memorial at Bens home next Saturday 11th, 11am to 4pm we believe.

Ben’s address is 401 S 31st Drive, Show Low.
